Alison Childs

Alison is a successful business woman, Director and Administrator for Doyen Recordings Ltd.  Her experience prior to Doyen included Personal Assistant to Regional Director of National Car Company and Personal Assistant to Managing Director CWS Travel.

Alison academically gained an Honours Degree in Health and Social Care, Diploma in Health and Social Welfare and a Certificate in Health and Social Care.

Alison started her playing career on cornet at the age of 10 with Blackley Band, alongside her brother, and later moved on to tenor horn under the guidance of legendary tenor horn player Gordon Higginbottom.  Before joining Black Dyke in 1999 she also played with Rochdale (Wilson’s) and later Foden’s Bands.

Alison has gained many prize-winning Championships including

1990 UK Entertaining Championships

1990, 1991 All England Masters

1990 and 1992 BBC Band of the Year

1992 and 2005 European Championships 

National Brass Band Champions of Great Britain 2001, 2004, 2008, 2009

British Open Champions 2005, 2006

English National Champions  2009 

 

Alison enjoys combining her business life with her musical attributes, peripatetic brass teaching and has a daughter, Rebecca, who is a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and Oldham Band (Lees).

Alison was the General Secretary/Administrator of the Tenor Horn Society and is one of the founder members along with Gordon Higginbottom, Melvyn Bathgate and Sandy Smith.

As the Administrator for the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band, Alison also enjoys being around these young enthusiastic musicians, which gives her a real sense of a bright future for the brass band movement.
