Black Dyke Band Young Composer in Residence 2018/19

Black Dyke Band Young Composer in Residence 2018/19

Black Dyke Band invites applications from young composers between the ages of 11 years and 25 years for their 2018/19 composition initiative.

Eligible young composers will be required to send their CV by email and submit a sample portfolio of compositions which will be assessed by Professor Philip Wilby. Professor Wilby will also be the lead mentor for the third year of the project (2018-19). The successful young composer will write a composition for full brass band and percussion which will be performed by the Black Dyke Band.

Applicants will be shortlisted and Professor Wilby will make the final decision on the successful young composer for 2018/19.

This scheme is made possible through the Arts Council England grant award and is a three-year initiative aimed at developing the art of brass band composition through performance and guidance from esteemed composers of the genre.

The successful candidate will be mentored by Professor Wilby and will have several individual tutorials throughout the period of tenure.
